I have a player in one of my 5e games who continuously says things like "I go and Perceive that thing" and I'm like - "but what do you actually DO? Like, if this was a movie and we were watching it, what would we see on screen?" And then in that way I can tell him if I think he's Investigating or Perceiving (or even Arcana-ing or History-ing etc etc). tbh, this player struggles with that - but that's maybe a different thread on a different dayI don't recall how things went in 4e, but boy the several sessions I ran a skill challenge, the way I ran them I thought it worked great</blockquote>
