Level Titles

I always enjoyed the level titles in D&D/AD&D, for a bit of flavour. Part of me wishes they'd bring them back for 4E (I actually use them in my current 3.5), but then I think:

Dear god, can you imagine? Every single level title for every class being the subject of a poll here on ENWorld.

"How can a 1st-level fighter be called a 'veteran'? He's 1st level!"

Many people just do it for their own game, just like you. Like your saying, probably best to just keep doing it that way.

We don't really refer to them in our OD&D game. If levels were accomplishments for your players, like you start all new characters at ZERO no matter what, then the names might mean something like they used to. It's just how you want to play really. I've never seen them mean anything in character.

When everyone from Einstein to Forrest Gump are 0-level characters, 1st level is Veteran. At 16 you kick butt with a sword. (no matter how quick witted you are)
