Leveling monsters without Monster Builder

I'm desiging my first campgain and would like to adjust some monster levels, but don't have a DDI subscription. (So I can't use Monster Builder) Is there a formula I can use?

The short version is: +1/-1 to attack, damage, AC and other defences per level up or down.

Seriously, just grab a one month subscription and enjoy the monster builder forever after.

IIRC, the DMG2 has pretty good advice on customizing and leveling/de-leveling monsters. Right now you can pick one up used for $11.65 on Amazon--slightly more than a 1 month sub to Insider, but it will last longer. :)

Splurge and get a short subscription just to download the MB, you'll never need to update it, just find a similar creature to what you want and tweak its stats in the program.

It's glorious.

Really - is this correct? I thought it was subscription/password protected. If not, then a one month subscription is the best deal ever created. I suppose they hope to keep you subscribed through updates. But with all the info out there now, there is plenty enough for what I need.

Yes, it seems there are a few people who basically subscribe for one month once a year and download all the updates to the Monster Builder and Character Builder at that time. They can then play with both programmes forever after... and also just repeat the one month subscription in a year's time.
