Linking planes to power sources

First Post
Starting with this quote taken from the news page in relation to the shadowfel

" Shadow is a power source. Involved with stealth, illusion, dread, 'devastating enemies' and 'necrotic energy' "

so Shadowfel = shadow

lets extend this

Astral sea = Divine
Material = Martial
Elemental Chaos = Arcane
Feywild = Primal/Nature?
Far realm = Psionics? (probably not, but you know you want it to be)

looking at Warlocks we can see the packs they make can be "the stars and the spaces between them" (far realm), fey spirits (feywild), devils (astral sea) and demons (elemental chaos).

I like your thinking. This is very possible and makes sense to me. And yes - psionics should be linked to far realm ;)

I reckon 'ki' is the best source for ''internal' power.

seconded except for far realm
I would say
Mind (which is the inner world of material beings) = psionic
Far Realm (weirderness, abomination, unnatural mix) = abominations (say a power-source where you change permanently yourself to get powers)

While that's neat and tidy and appeals to the sphincter puckering part of my nature, it could fall apart when new power sources are released.

Why must there be mathematical correspondences between all concepts?
Like those lists people are trying to make, combining roles and powers to come up with classes :confused:

I'd think in all the planes you can find wielders of every kind of power. Eladrin, for instance, they come from the Feywild, right? Aren't they supposed to be the masters of the arcane?

Another thing, aren't devils and demons all from the astral sea? As I recall in the Astral Sea you can find all sort of realms (equivalent to the 3.5 planes)

It would be kind of beautiful (in a mostly mathematical sense) to have it all this regular. But any living world is never so straightforward. It is their irregularity and weirdness is what makes them "living". If it's to be a good campaign setting, ie, a "vibrant living world", it has to look more like the real world.

People like to see patterns in all things. That seems to be how our mind works.
Sometimes, these patterns really exist. In case of a game system, it's very likely that there are certain patterns linking different things together. But it's not always true, and not always neccessary.

You can indeed find all sorts of realms on the astral. One of the realms you explicitly won't find is The Abyss, which has moved to the center of the Elemental Maelstrom, essentially the center of the inner planes.
Since Demons hail from the Abyss, you're not likely to find them on the Astral, except in war-parties and scouting and subterfuge -- probably.

That was the word I was looking for! Pattern! LOL
Yeah, it's right, a game system Must have patterns linking things.

Definitely as you say it!!!

Anyway, it's fun to make these correspondences :)
But I do believe they have nothing to do with the design of the game

The reason i linked psi and the far realm is, well, Mind Flayers and Aboleths. the two big bad psi monsters, also abberations, also from the far realm.

ok, well looking at the powers of the mind, i'd accept that, providing you merged ki and psi.

Mix monks with soul knives. They don't need to manifest a weapon visibly, just gain some abilities and such. Dragon Punch lol

So
Shadowfel = Shadow
Astral sea = Divine
Elemental Chaos = Arcane
Feywild = Primal/Nature?
Body = Martial
Mind = Psi
Far realm = Everything/anything, only twisted?

yeah you had me for a moment, than I thought that normal psi are more connected to controll and inner mastery than drawing on madness, so maybe the psi powers of the various far realms inhabitants are of another nature

absolutely mix psi and ki for mind realm it's more generic and can be as fantasy as you want and you can have enchanters, soulblade, monk and whatever :)
