I have seen it done, but I haven't ever done it myself. I'm sure somebody will be able to fill you in, though (and I'll learn something new!)

Can this be done at other messageboards the same way?
If they use the same software, sure.

Examples:

rpg.net
WotC boards
Nutkinland
HERO boards
Something Awful
Godlike boards

What I do is copy the url for the page the post is on, to the end of that add "#post" naturally with out the " " on it, then I tag the post number to the end of that (which I get from the end of the quote or efit button at the bottom of the post, which looks like this:
http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/newreply.php?s=&action=newreply&postid=1079284

You just want the part after the final equals sign.

I general do this in notepad since I can type in it while I hover my mouse pointer over the quote button to get the post id, and when I'm done I just copy and paste it.

If you want an easier way ask psionicist.

p.s. if you forget what the structure is just check the url for a thread after you post in it, the boards automatically take you directly to your post.

- Just insert the correct post # and don't switch 'Automatically parse URLs' off Darkness
