I used to work with Gnome. But as Gnome wasn't stable enough, I switched to WindowMaker two years ago (it does what you want and nothing more).
But yes, there are nice programs using GTK out there (especially gcombust ;) )

I use Linux, and KDE exclusively under it.

If you're thinking about coding a tool under Linux take a good, hard look at the QT libraries and the latest version of KDevellop...very, very nice. Not to mention that you can port to the PC and Mac if you use QT.

Well GNOME has become fairly stable. I've already released a map program (demo) that I posted on here already.

As far as KDE goes, I've already looked into it. My development environment consists of KDevelop and Glade. But I'm use Gnome as my desktop.

This is mainly to see if there is enough interest in Linux based tools.

I'm sure any Linux based tools would be a hit with openrpg (http://www.openrpg.com) users and developers. If you have an open source rpg software tool, please post news about it on openrpg.com. We try to help spread the word on any open source projects.

As far as open source goes, not sure thats the path I'll pursue. I still have decide either whether I 'll offer the items as freeware or shareware.

Nifft - you can email more about your capabilities at discord_jb@yahoo.com. Or IM me on Yahoo at discord_jb.

As far as my current projects.

RPGMapmaker - tile based map drawing program. Its pretty much complete and available. Works well too. Uses the same tiles that can be used with Dungeon Crafter.

character generator - still designing.

Tabletop DM assistant - still designing, it will use the same map format as RPGMapmaker, but will allow overlay of features and PC/NPC positioning. Will also be network capable.

others will come about as I have time.

Also I plan on making all the programs interoperable. The table top program will read the maps created with the RPGMapmaker and characters created with the character generator. Also I plan on releasing the formats as OGL (open gaming license) material. This allows others to write programs capable of reading these files.

Currently all the formats will an XML format. But I'm still working the DTDs.
