[Lions Den Press/Ronin Arts] "The Iconic Bestiary: Classics of Fantasy" released!

April 4, 2005. For immediate release and dissemination:

Lions Den Press, in conjunction with Ronin Arts, is pleased to announce their newest release: The Iconic Bestiary: Classics of Fantasy.

The first in Lions Den's Iconic Bestiary line, Classics of Fantasy is a monster resource intended for players and publishers alike. Presented herein are seven new monsters (or 13, including sub-types), fully ready for use. Each one of these creatures correlates to one of the iconic monsters not included in the SRD. These are not the same creatures in disguise, but rather occupy the same niche, and possess comparable though not identical abilities.

The Iconic Bestiary: Classics of Fantasy offers Game Masters the ability to surprise their players while still maintaining the mood and feel of these fantasy gaming classics, and offers other publishers replacement creatures that do not violate any of the current licenses, while still keeping much of the resonance of the originals. The product is written by Ari Marmell, and contains art by Beth Trott.

I admit, this caught my eye, despite my having since become somewhat jaded to new d20 material. The idea of finally having workable, OGC replacements for the illithid, beholder, displacer beast, etc. is something I'm quite keen on seeing!

Nor do you seem to be the only one. :)

As I've said before, I'm stunned nobody beat me to this. There have been quite a few "replacement creatures" in other products, but so far as I know, nobody has released a product whose sole purpose was to provide replacements for most of them at once.

Now, what you need to do next is talk to Fiery Dragon about getting Klaus to do a counter pdf to go along with this........

Needless to say, I hope you get word of this out there, since then you could be said to have THE official replacements for big seven.

Hmm, illithids, yuan-ti, beholders, displacer beasts, githyanki, githzerai...which one am I missing?

For the first release in "Ronin Challenge Month" I've been very happy with the Iconic Bestiary's performance. Hopefully Ari has a sequel up his sleeves!
