Consider me recruited. Along with me you also get my 2 cents worth, at no extra charge. I like the idea of the JLU style set-up. The way I see it is, to start, there is one large hero group and one major section of the U.S. (or whatever country is being used) that they cover. I like the idea of maybe 5 ultimate-level heroes who started the group and have recruited the others. The big 5 would inform the group of what missions are available and the groups would divide up from there. Maybe there are two massive cities where most things occur, that is where the adventures would take place. As for the world, I think it needs to be somewhat generic to make it open for various backgrounds. If you look at an X-Men or JL or Titans cartoon, it is pretty generic however, you have a assumed idea of how things work there. Once the group grows, perhaps characters could splinter off into other groups. But that is for way down the road. Origins should be up to the players. A common origin is fine. A comet passed too close to the earth. Maybe player 1 does not use that concept at all. Player 2 uses that for his entire background idea. Player 3 says her character was in a town that received dust and debris but otherwise were unaffected. Player 4 is a mutant who was further enhanced by the event. I also like the idea of government sponsored heroes. Perhaps each government with a super on the payroll has sent them to the group to represent the home country. Based on all of this, I do think original characters only are best. On the topic of mood or genre, I think it should depend on the mission. Make it known if there is some big secret that some characters may not like (My space ranger doesn't want to fight zombies or Captain Caveman could care less about fighting the Occult Master). This way there is something for everyone but there don't have to be limits. I like the suggestions that Kylara has made about character levels. I would vote for her to be the overall judge on this subject.
