loading delay?

I've noticed lately that each page loads 90-95% and then there is a "hiccup" of about a second's delay before the page load is complete.

Often during this time the browser tells me its loading from something called "google analytics".

What is this? Can you turn it off until Google improves its performance?

Can I turn it off? (I certainly don't want my browsing experience worsened by something as useless as Google collecting statistics about how I surf)

Assuming it indeed is the source of the very annoying and noticeable delay, of course.

I've tried blocking Google Analytics both through the hosts file and by setting up an AdBlock filter. But the slow-down is still there.

So perhaps this doesn't have anything to do with that at all... any other suggestions on how to get rid of this delay? (If at all possible)
