Location of each piece of the Rod of Seven Parts?

Adventurer
I'm thinking of running the old adventure Rod of Seven Parts. I can't seem to find a good summary of this adventure though.

I would like to know the locations of each part of the rod (where the PCs go to recover the piece). Can anyone give a brief summary of these scenarios so I can determine if it is worth reading through? I want to see if these scenarios sound fun to run or if I should just make up my own adventure using the Rod as the plot device?

Thanks.

I don't know about the original adventure, but here are some ideas:

- In the hoard of Tiamat, the chromatic dragon
- In the stomach of the Tarrasque
- Being used as the handle for ruling rod of Vlaakith, Lich-Queen of the Githyanki
- Holding up one corner of the throne of Asmodeus
- As the central control rod of Lloth's spider ship
- On a landing at the top of the infinite staircase
- At the bottom of the well of many worlds
- In the burial chamber of Acererak the Demi-lich

- On a landing at the top of the infinite staircase

Funny you mention that because the reason I'm asking is because I have finished preparing Tales of the Infinite Staircase.

At the last minute, I've decided that I really don't care for the "Iron Shadow" plotline in the staircase adventure and I'm worried that it has too many problems. Half of the adventures have little or nothing to do with the Iron Shadow. One chapter deals with saving the Slaadi race (why would the PCs care to do that?). And I think it is going to be really hard to get my players invested in a plotline regarding something like the Iron Shadow.

So I thought that I could just use the chapters from the staircase as locations for where pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts could be found. I am not fond of a couple of these chapters though, so I want to see if any of the chapters from the Rod of Seven Parts adventures are better and maybe I can mix the two modules together.

One is in the tomb of a dead warlord that is now serving as an ogres lair.
One is in the 'hands' of an Aboleth at an entrance to the Underdark.
One is in possession of a fire giant queen, currently visiting her cloud giant neighbors because of a marriage (?!?!?) that is supposed to cement an alliance between their peoples. In other words, giants galore.
Two are in an inn in the desert.
One is in a pit fiend's fortress.
One is in a fortress in Pandamonium.

Hmm, none of those locations sound any more interesting than where the PCs go in the Infinite Staircase. Although every review I've read about Ro7P mentions nothing about any of those scenarios except for the giant wedding chapter. So maybe I'll look at that to see if it is worth switching out for a chapter in the staircase. Thanks.
