Villager
Adventures in Cold Space is our 5e D&D Spelljamming campaign that's been running online, every other Saturday, since February of 2022. We've had a lot of players come and go over the years, but we've now got a pretty dedicated core. The campaign is centered on a single Spelljamming vessel, The Duchess, a souped up damselfly, and her crew of misfits and ne'er-do-wells. All players play crew members on said ship. It's heavily inspired by Firefly, the scum-and-villainy parts of Star Wars, RDR2, Wing Commander: Privateer, and Mass Effect 2. You're criminals and operate in the gray areas. Nobody's evil. Our scoundrels have hearts of gold. You're not on the straight and narrow, but you don't hurt innocents. But you're not above breaking the law if it's profitable.
The setting is homebrewed, but we stick mostly to published rules. It's more inspired by 2e than 5e Spelljammer (note, we've been at this since before the 5e rules were published).
When: Every other Saturday, 7PM-11PM(ish), on Foundry and Zoom. Our next session is August 16th.
What We're Looking For
How to apply? Send me a DM here including your name and email address. I'll send you a questionnaire. After this post has simmered for a bit, I'll ask the top few best fits among the responders to do a Zoom call with me. Feel free to DM me with questions before applying.

What We're Looking For
- Older players: the DM here is a cuspy Gen-X (me!); our players range from 20-somethings to 40-somethings. Someone in their late 20s or early 30s would fit right in. 40s and 50s are welcome. Younger than 23... eh, you're probably going to find us to be a bad fit
- Collaborative players: We're very story-focused, and we're telling that story collaboratively. We want players who will make decisions that make for interesting stories, not necessarily strategic optimization. We're equal parts 'yes, and...' and 'no, but...'
- Consistent players: We have missed perhaps 3 scheduled sessions since we started in 2022. The best player in the world is useless to us if they don't have time in their schedule and a commitment to showing up. The game happens every two weeks, 7PM-11PM EDT. As long as we have three players, we play. We have five players currently. You'd be our sixth. We expect you to be there, on time, every two weeks.
- Outgoing players: We require both camera and voice for sessions. We don't require, but do heavily encourage, in-between-session text-based RP on the game's Discord.
- Very little homebrew: We tend to stick to published rulebooks (for PCs) unless it's for something Spelljammery that's not properly been converted. The setting is bespoke, the rules are (mostly) stock. We're also still using 2014 rules and have no plans to shift to 2024.
- Nothing is as it seems: The NPCs in the game have their own agendas. They aren't sitting around waiting for the players to do things. They lie. A lot. Players have to constantly decide who to trust. You -will- be backstabbed. Alliances are ever-shifting.
- Combat is not the default: Combat happens when it's meaningful. We tend to do about 1/4 combat, 3/4 social and political stuff, depending on the arc we're in. If the fight would be boring or a foregone conclusion, we're generally willing to handwave it.
- Characters welcome, voices optional: The most important thing is that you have a character that contributes meaningfully to our shared world. You don't have to do a character voice, but you do need a strong character, one designed to fit in with this game. Importing a character you played in another game is probably not going to work.
