After reading everything else in this thread I'm thoroughly confused. The feral template is a +1 Level Adjust. Based on the Savage Species. It gains extra abilities based on its Hit Dice. Also from Savage Species. However! According to Gestalt in the Unearthed Arcana. A player doesn't have twice the HD just because they have twice the bonuses from classes. A 4th level human fighter/wizard - having the best traits and abilities from both fighter and wizard is still only a 4th level (and 4 HD) character. Now, as far as my confusions, because Feral is a template applied to a species .... Level adjust should (can't seem to find anything explicitly saying it) come off the top as you are a X level character, not a X/X level character. So, at 20th "ECL" and you have a +1 LA, then take your level - 1 and that's the max HD you get. Meaning you can be a 19fighter/19wizard not a 19fighter/20 wizard because the LA does not come off the fighter side only. Also, I know I would never allow Feral to be inherited in my games because it seems overly silly. Even if I could get past that, I wouldn't allow it in Gestalt because LA's in Gestalt make me cry sometimes :P
