I'm aware of the class variants in Unearthed Arcana and the wild shape variant in the PHB2.

But I could have sworn I came across a variant somewhere that lets the druid choose various abilities (like +4 Str, +4 Dex, water breathing, etc) and then eventually have more than one active at the same time.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I can't remember where I saw it. I'm pretty sure it was a WotC book. Help!

Wild Shape Variant: Aspect of Nature (Unearthed Arcana, pp. 67-69) is what you're looking for, I think.

Yes, the class feature variants are split off from the class variants in UA. Nobody knows why.

There's also the Aspect of the Dragon alternate class feature in Dragon Magic. A player in my game is using it, and it's really quite cool. Swift actions to activate are the magic ingredient.
