Looking for a village/small community management rule system

First Post
I borrowed an idea to my DM : the PC have been named to rule a small feudal domain. Very small indeed, with only a few dozen (very poor and illiterate) peasants living in their domain.
So, they basically are the rulers of the most backward and miserable domain they can imagine. But they have great ambitions with it, starting by reclaiming the ruins of the castle from the kobold/goblin/other pesky critters who occupy it.

Anyway, between two game sessions dedicated to classical D&D scenarios, they will try to develop their domain. I would like something similar to the Ars Magica rules, except that it will be about the life of a rural community rather than magical studies. So, something season based, which would allow me to see evaluate how much work the peasant are able to do for their master, how much food they harvest and consume, how high is their moral, how many many peoples are born or dead etc...
Of course, each time the PC manage to improve the village (building mills or granary... think to the early turns of a Civ IV game), it will help boosting either the food collected, the moral of the villagers, their health or their productivity...

So, does someone know about a rule-light gaming system for my needs ? There may be some tabletop games (Katane ?) who would nicely fit, but I'm deeply ignorant of anything not-RPG...
(I precise that I won't use the D&D economic system : I don't want the player to be able to re-build a whole town each time they kill an ogre warlord and loot its stuff... Magic item won't sell in thousands of GP, and there won't be thousands of GP to start with...)

This ?
Houses of the Blooded

It seems very political/romantic... and very "WoDy" too :D. I don't need something for intrigue, romance and treasons... I just need something to manage the production and well-being of a few dozen peons. Is this game offering that ?

Magical Medievel Society: Western Europe is probably your best bet.

Paizo's recent King Maker AP is supposed to have rules for this in it but I have yet to read them over.

Your seasons based requirement makes me think you will find good rules in Pendragon. Unfortunately I believe the $11 sale the 5E version was in is over now.

I remember using a simple system when running Pendragon. I think it was part of the main book, but I'll confimr when I get back to my library.

Yeah. There's a "Domain Management" system as part of the game. You'll have to do some modifications to tie it into whatever system you're running (a University might give you a bonus to Knowledge skill checks instead of "+2 dice to a Wisdom risk"), but for the most part it's pretty simple.

Go to Downloads and download the Seasons Reference document. That should be enough to get you started.

Pendragon Book of the Manor is probably the most detailed you'll get for that scale, but I don't think it's currently available anywhere. Some of the earlier Pendragon material covers the same sort of subject, Lordly Domains for the 4th edition was very good. And of course the core Pendragon book has a simple management system for a knight's manor.

Away from Pendragon, Runequest Empires from Mongoose is nice, and adaptable to all sorts of organisations, but perhaps not particularly detailed. There were a few D20 books, Magical Medieval Society as already recommended is awesome, Alderac produced an Empire book, Mongoose had something called Strongholds, and no doubt others I've forgotten.

Edit: Come to think of it, Song of Ice and Fire has apparently got a nice system for this. Or so I've heard.

Thank everybody for the input. I will try to check what I can (some of my friends may have those books).

I will probably use what I find as sources of inspiration, to tailor it to what I need.

Dragon magazine #125 has a nice fief management article. taxes, immigration, fief morale, food supplies and so on. quite handy if you can find a back issue or online pdf.
