Looking for an alternate d20 magic/psionics system to love.

Ideally I'm seeing the marriage of the Star Wars feats/skills force stuff and Mage: The Ascension’s "limited only by your imagination" kind of stuff.

Has anyone seen anything like this somewhere? Or have some quick and dirty ideas on how I could pull this off?

The game I initially want to use it with is d20Future, but if it really works I doubt I would limit it to that.

What do you guys think?

Green Ronin The Psychic Handbook is what you want. It is a psychic feat and skill system that is compatible with both D&D and d20 Modern. There is a web enchancement at Green ronin with a revised d20 Modern class and a new race as well.

From what I have read on their website, Blue Rose, the new "romantic" fantasy game by Green Ronin, is going to use a magic system directly based on their Psychic's Handbook skiils and feats system.

On the other hand, I have no idea how Mage: The Ascension magic system works.

I think if you dig mage, you might dig ENPub's elements of magic. You learn spell abilities in clusters, and can, with time, cast effects with teh abilities you know, but have a short list of spells you can cast quickly (making it so you don't take time making up brand new spells in the middle of combat.)

Edit: Here's a link to the product:

For modern/future, I think GR's Psychic Handbook is pretty nifty.

There is also another Skills & Feats system due out next month from Ravenloft author Steve Miller, though I don't know anything about this why it would make it much different than Psychic's Handbook.

Dragonlance Saga, FQC, and the TPG

Saga Dragonlance had a create your own spell on the fly system and could be used in d20 by doubling the Difficulty Numbers (though the damage needs to be changed also).

Faerie, Queen, & Country for Amazing Engine also had an on the fly system, just divide the percentile modifiers by 10 and add 10 to find the DC.

But for direct application to psionics, get the Trinity Player's Guide (available at www.DTRPG.com) and a copy of Trinity d20 to figure out rough conversions. My recommendation is to make them require a Psi + 1d20 check and make the DC 10 + number of successes needed, each damage/healing success is roughly 2d6 in damage.

I second both the psychics handbook and Elements of Magic: Revised. I have purchased both of them and they are quite wonderful. The psychics handbook is practically built for futureistic games as far as style goes (lower key and not "psi like magic") and EoM:R is an amazingly flexible magic system that is built from the ground up for customization.

Indeed, I am slowly forming a future campaign setting taking those two books, the core future book, chaositch (with a little tweaking), and (possibly) blood and vigilance and creating a very.... interesting campaign setting.

Another vote for Psychic's Handbook and Elements of Magic Revised. Both are great books. It basically comes down to a choice bewteen Skills & Feats (Psychic'c Handbook), Sort of Freeform (EoM:R) or a combination of both.

Our Universal FX (a freebie at RPGNow) is a skills and feats system for D20 Modern which is designed as a toolkit to allow you to design your own Skills&Feats magic system. It does include some example systems that are probably not what you're after, but the are similar to WoD type powers, so you should be able to see how you could build your own directly based on Mage, if you want. Its free, so you only lose out on a small amount of download time :).

Cheerio,

Ben

Both Darwin's World and Prometheus Rising use a feat based Psionic System. We plan to release an expanded standalone book of this feat based Psionic system in the no so distant future.

Blood and Relics uses a Feat base magic system.

All of those are d20 modern/future based products.
