A bit of both actually. Our group had had a few campaigns cut short, and we were tired of always being low level. So we started our characters at 3rd level. My character is a Cloistered Cleric (a non-martial cleric variant from Unearthed Arcana) and Wizard: Abjurer. He's a seeker of knowledge and a cleric by nature (he had a personal religious experience with Pelor that was a literal leap of faith). He's a book worm! Other than Concentration, Spellcraft, and a bit of Heling, his skill are almost entirely in Knowledge and he knows something like 12 languages. I didn't have any trouble with bringing him toward Mystic Theurge (technically he isn't one yet as he's level 6 right now) as learning the arcane arts is an extension of his knowledge-seeking nature. It also helps that in our custom campaign, our mentor and boss is a 14th level Mystic Theurge himself, who work for the church. The key to being a useful on the road to Mystic Theurge (I does hurt being 6th level and only having access to a few 2nd level spells) is taking the Practised Spellcaster feat from Complete Arcane or Complete Divine. It allows your spellcasting to be as potent as it should be for your level, despite being 3 levels behind in each class. As for the spellbook idea regarding the character sheet, I'm starting to lean more towards a seperate PDF. I originally preferred the idea of keeping everything together as one, but it's definitely proving to be a big slowdown (the Known Spells/Spellbook sections account for more than half the 10,000 fields on the sheet). Thanks for the ideas.
