If it's not too late to do so, take a look at the Elven Wizard racial substitution levels in Races of the Wild. The first two are very nice. Incantatrix is amazingly powerful, both for you and your party. The Cooperative Metamagic ability lets you apply metamagic feats to spells other people are casting with a Spellcraft check. The Metamagic Effect ability lets you apply metamagic feats to spells after they have been cast, also with a Spellcraft check. If your DM allows magic items with competence bonuses to Spellcraft, making the checks becomes fairly easy. An extreme example of how this can be used is to apply the Persistant Spell (24 hour duration) metamagic feat to a spell after you cast it on yourself. The two Incantatrix abilities do not have an upper limit to effective spell level, so you can apply Persistant Spell (+6 levels) to a 9th level spell for an effective 15th level spell. You can do this to a whole lot of spells each day. In general, when planning for epic levels, a mage should take classes in multiples of 6. Note how your Base Attack Bonus and Saving Throw Bonuses all increase by one at 6th level. This is important because your BAB and Saves both stop increasing by character class when you reach epic levels and begin increasing at a flat (slow) rate. You really want to optimize your saves, and to a lesser extent your BAB, before going epic. I strongly suggest avoiding taking classes that don't offer full spell progression unless they offer an ability you REALLY want. Your caster level is of prime importance. Anything you can do to increase it is worth looking at. One possibility many people seem to miss is the 2nd level spell create magic tattoo. At caster level 13, it can be used to give you +1 caster level. Also, the spell spell enhancer increases your caster level by 2 for the next spell you cast.
