I'm not sure what I should price this magical item as since it has a number of unusual "catches"... any guesses? Thanks guys :) :) Harp of the Mists: This appears to be a sturdy, but plain, wooden hand-harp of good quality. When it is played it issues a rich tonal quality found only in the very finest instruments. Little is known of the harp’s history, though it is thought not to be native to Toril. It was last known to be in the possession of the infamous bard Marco Sal, given to him by the Mistmaster, for unknown reasons. The harp has three known powers, though others might be found… Note of Influence: When a single pleasant note is struck with the proper skill (DC 14 Perform check), the nearest ten creatures within 50 feet react to the wielder as if they had a +2 Charisma bonus for the next ten rounds. This ability may not be used more than six times a day. Chord of Calm: If the user expends three Notes of Influence charges skillfully (DC 18 Perform check) he may call on the Chord of Calm ability. When this chord is used it calms agitated creatures, acting exactly as the 2nd level spell Calm Emotions spell as if cast by a 10th lvl caster (Will save DC 14). This power cannot be used more than twice a day since that would consume all the Notes of Influence. The Hidden Melody: If the user expends all six Notes of Influence in a masterful display of skill (DC 22 perform check) he may call on The Hidden Melody. Using music to part the veils of reality, the harp conjures forth knowledge of a story involving the melody’s focus that is being touched. For example, if the wielder concentrates and touches a specific magic item while playing the Hidden Melody, he gain some tale regarding its creation or history—something that might hint at its power. If the focus is a person, a story from his or her past comes to the wielder. Specific questions cannot be asked and the focus subject must be person or an object. The tale has a 50 percent chance of being relevant to the concerns at hand. DMs should note that they have free reign with the tale that they provide. Even a relevant tale does not have to give away everything. This power cannot be used more than once a day since that would consume all the Notes of Influence. Value? P.S.: Yep... inspired by Monte Cook's variant bard class :).
