It's a D&D 3.0/3.5 game with a twist.....
From the introductory post:
I don’t know about you guys (and gals) but sometimes I thirst for something a little different. Maybe you’re new to the game, and have no idea what sort of character to play, heck maybe not even know how to create a character. Well for either you new comers, or you old timers there should be plenty of options for everyone.
Background:
In the lush pasturelands of Grenhad there is a general sense of calm. People from across the lands flock to the burgh of Justica as the most protected burgh in the Nine Duchies. A place where everyone has a task and crime is simply unheard of. Criminals are wary to pass through the gates of this simple and humble looking burgh. There are no imposing walls, no grand moat, just a simple knee high rock wall that surrounds it. Drafhol the Merciful was trained in these very walls, and now resides as the Chief of the guard over this ever-thriving burgh. Yes that’s right, the greatest hero in the Nine Duchies grew up, and will grow old, right here protecting the lands that became home to him oh so long ago. However, Drafhol is not the only hero to live a simple life here. There are many more that had equally important adventures, but there is not enough daylight to list them. Still every year, more come here to train at the Academy. The Academy of the Justicars is what makes this burgh the safest place. From it’s home upon a hill overlooking the lands, this Academy is renown for training the lands greatest heroes.
These heroes, from all walks of life, are available for hire to the lands. They will serve as escorts, bounty hunters, personal guards, espionage experts, peacekeepers, negotiators, treasure seekers, and any other task that is brought before the academy. A willing party need only bring their contribution to the academy along with specifics of the task to the Board of Instructors. The instructors then review the job and get volunteers for the job from applicable students. There is never a shortage of tasks for the students; some tasks are very difficult, whereas others are fairly simple. After completing the objective, the students receive a portion of the contribution to the Academy, plus whatever treasure they may have acquired during their job.
All students are housed at the Academy, and usually have famalies or friends inhabiting the burgh. Between studies and training they are allowed free time to visit the burgsfolk. The town has many commodites, and many shops are owned by the most skilled craftsmen in the lands. All told it's a simple place that is devoted to helping eachother and promoting the advancement of up and coming heroes.
Concept:
Above you’ll find an academy filled with opportunities for the young (or old) adventurer to partake in a series of short adventures. This Academy is full of adventurers from all walks of life; here all races and all classes are represented with a set of pre-generated characters. The Academy is responsible for finding jobs for these adventurers that belong to it, allowing the heroes to hone their skills. You will assume the identity of one of these adventurers, and choose a job to go on with your comrades. The guild will always present you with a number of options, different jobs to take for different levels of characters. Perhaps there is a temple that has been taken over by harpies, and the church hires you to sweep the harpies out and return it to the church. Perhaps there’s a band of gnolls that are pillaging a local town, and they scrape together the money to hire you to eliminate the threat. Anything is possible.
These adventures are designed to take a very short amount of time. The shortest an adventure will last is approximately a week; whereas the longest one will be less than two weeks.
Mechanics:
Now listen (read) to this section very carefully. The characters will not be yours to keep. They belong in a pool that will be used and reused by the Academy as time goes by. Every adventure the DM will put a call out for people wishing to participate in the adventure. Interested players will send a PM to the DM for that session. He will then select the desired amount of players and notify them to collectively choose a job. Once chosen, the players will PM their individual character choice, appropriate for that level of adventure. These choices will be first come first serve, whichever player PMs first requesting a character will get them. The number of adventurers will vary per session, so pay close attention to each as it’s presented. Keep in mind that if you participated in the last adventure that does not necessarily secure your place in future adventures. Each adventure will hopefully contain different players, maximizing the opportunity for everyone to have fun.
During the course of an adventure, if a character should happen to level up, the player utilizing that character will be responsible for choosing his/her upgrades for the next level. The upgrades include (if applicable): skill points, spells, feats, classes, or whatever else may be appropriate. They will make a post concerning these upgrades on the appropriate character and the DM will modify the character as necessary. The character will then go back into the pool as an updated character, available for tougher jobs. “Tougher jobs?” You say? That’s right. Each adventure will be designed for certain level characters, i.e. a group of 5th level adventurers could NOT participate in a 1st level job.
The first player to utilize a character is also responsible for buying their gear. They have 200gp to work with, and should consider buying everything from weapons and armor, to steeds and supplies. If you do not have a steed, it is possible to borrow one from the Academy's stables. Their stables host a large number of highly trained animals available at the cost of 3 gold per day.
Hope to see you there!
