Okay, I intend no insult to anyone when I say this, no publisher I know of is going to look at a post on a message board and say “hey, I’ll publish your work!” You need to find publishers that publish various game systems, worlds, etc. Right now, this is going to mean larger publishers. Smaller d20 publishers (like those you’ll find here) aren’t going to spread themselves out on something that isn’t their own and small publishers of other game systems are generally going to stick with their own creations as well. You need to send query letters to the publishers that you think might be interested. If you have a new game system you should include a variety of things; Length of the book(s) How is it different from what is already out there? What is the target audience? How large is the target audience? (in other words, what are your expected sales?) Not only do you need to sell your game system in the letter, you also need to sell yourself. Don’t just type a haphazard letter; make it your best work. Publishers generally aren’t looking to publish something unless it looks like it’ll make them money. Unless this is a new situation, you’ll still need editing, artwork, layout, etc. All of these cost the publisher money, time, and effort that could be spent on other books. Tell the publisher how this is a good system and why it should be published. This doesn’t mean bashing other games or gaming systems. If you start out saying, “DnD sux blah, blah, blah.” The publisher won’t even read your letter. Off the top of my head the publishers I can think of that might be interested in publishing a new system would be Green Ronin, Mongoose, Atlas Games, AEG, um, and there are some others.
