Is there a spell that makes you explode if you die and damage everyone around you?

Death Throes. Its a 5th level Clr/Sorc/Wiz in the Spell Compendium, reprinted from the Planar Handbook.

It's too high level to make a potion, but you could make a single use Wonderous Item that you consume like an Elixer. Label it as Featherfalling or Waterbreathing or something else you kinda need to have faith in that it'll work when you use it. Hillarious.

Huh, they should have named it Retributive Strike, since that's what the Staff of the Magi power of the same effect has been named since at least 1E.

It's named after the Balor ability of the same name. IIRC, Death Throes has been the name of that Balor feature since 1st ed.

Fatal Flame is much lower level, but the damage it deals is rather meh. Bonus points for being able to cast this on enemies, though.

More people played magic-users in 1E than played Type VI demons. ("Balor" was a singular demon in 1E.)

there's another spell called Phoenix Fire from Book of Exalted Deeds, does a crap ton of damage by making you explode, die, then resurrects you the next round 1 level lower.
