Gellan snapped his attention away from the fruit merchant as Zharne approached, silently thanking him for the reminder of their purpose here. Keeping his eyes on the target, the halfling slipped through the crowd, using his small stature to his advantage. When he had gotten within a few lengths of the bearded man, a curious smell sparked a memory in Gellan's mind. After the scent overloads of the curio shop and the tavern, Gellan wasn't sure he could trust his nose so quickly, but he continued to follow the man, searching his brain for the odor that clung to his clothes. It wasn't fish, it wasn't the nal'yand root, it wasn't the smoke from the tavern.......ah! That's it! Gellan recognized the scent of a natural moth repellent, often used by cloth merchants to ensure their shipments do not become destroyed by moths and other critters who would otherwise feast on the bolts of fabric. Now having the recognizable scent to follow, Gellan drops further back behind the man and continues his pursuit. Using various means the group is able to follow the man as he makes his way down the street. As you travel along you leave behind the sights and sounds of the taverns and Inns and the occasional dusk fruit merchant. This section of town is dominated by warehouses and storage buildings, with the occasional storefront doting the street. The ever-burning streetlamps become less frequent and you manage to keep a fair distance between yourselves and the man, relying on the shadows between to duck into when necessary. As the street Thorn is following long comes to an end he is forced to cut back and join the others just in time to see the bearded man turn down an alley a couple of blocks ahead of you. Thorn, Gloom and Zharne manage to pick up the sounds of conversation as the man begins speaking to someone, but at this distance, even with the clear quite night, cannot make out the exact words. [sblock=Skill Challenge Update] Congrats, you have successfully completed Skill Challenge #2 and followed the man without being noticed. You are now about 20 squares away from the alley entrance. What do you do now? [/sblock] [sblock=Map] OK here goes the map.... The gray line between AA and AB is a rail, below which lies the docks. There are stairs and ramps leading down at various intervals, but none here. The Green splotches are trees. You can move under them easily enough, and at the center of the tree is the trunk, which would provide cover. The entrance to the alley begins at U3. [/sblock]
