D&D 5E Lost In 5th Edition

I had read very heavily through some of the early playtest information, but quickly hit the point where I was downloading packets and never opening them.

I read at least two of the more recent threads talking about the Basic D&D announcements, which has convinced me (as well as a bunch of the players from my old campaign) that I should run a one shot or two when we have a conjunction of players later this summer (pre Gencon).

Two questions: #1 Have there been any leaks of mechanics or general consensus suggestions for changes that should be made to the final playtest package?

#2 is there a solid 5E (not necessarily official) one shot adventure out there that puts the new rule set through its paces well?

Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle and a couple of Encounters adventures use the 5E rules and contain the basics in them. You can get them at dndclassics.com.

Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle is 4 adventures designed levels 1-10. Each adventure is playable in about 8-10 hours. I'm running a group through it just now and we are about to finish up the second adventure. They are pretty good. There isn't enough material to get characters to actually level up through all those levels...so we just level up to the appropriate level between each adventure. It comes with all the rules you need to play.

That said, if you are doing this post July 15th, you are probably better off buying the starter set with the official rules and an official adventure for levels 1-5

Whoa, wait a second. I missed that Basic was getting released before Gencon. I thought that the starter set was going to be the BIG product, not the PHB.

The starter set will be available at WoTC Premier stores on July 3rd, and everywhere else July 15th.

Gen Con is Aug 14th, and that is the launch of the PHB. So you should be able to do a one shot well before the con.

Yeah, I had totally missed that. Couldn't figure out why Uller was telling me to use the Basic set. :D
