Now this is just a suggestion but we could let it slip that we might be interested in buying an amount of mithril but since we cant get what we want here we will move on and find some place else. Now this only works if the robbers are doing this for the sake of gold, and don't have a buyer and it require that they have time to catch the gossip and if it doesn't work out we might have to confront them head on by walking out of the town.
