Lost Relics: Legend of the Hawk

To this day, adventurers, sages, and grave robbers seek the remains of the Hawk, for many believe he was buried with wondrous treasures and magical artifacts. Among the Hawk’s precious possessions, some items have been uncovered, but most of the relics associated with this legendary hero remain lost to this day. This four page Weapons and Equipment PDF is an easy-to-integrate items and just the sort of thing needed for DMs to add depth to any great d20 fantasy campaign world and gaming session. Devil's Workshop continues their trend of bringing elements from the comic book world to fantasy with this, their second release in the Lost Relic line. Legend of the Hawk presents a collection of five items once belonging to a hero known as the Hawk, a man who long ago fought the forces of evil with an assortment of magical items that made him seem like a hawk-man.

The five items--the Face, Star, Hand, Talon and Wings of the Hawk--are both well stated (none of the items is too powerful or broken, though each is worthy of being called a "relic") and interesting in their own right. These are not the kind of items you would just drop into a random treasure hoard, however. Even if you decide not to use the little history associated with the legendary Hawk to give some background to the relics, these are the kind of items that adventures are either built around (PCs must find out the resting place of one of the relics, retrieve a missing piece of the set from a certain group, defeat a villain using the relics to do great damage, thus tarnishing the legacy of the Hawk, etc.), or that are awarded to PCs after the completion of a major quest (and in that case, they come with a catch of having to uphold the legend of the original wearer).

Production values are simple but good: Only one piece of art is featured, on the cover, while the page layout is landscape, making the PDF readable on screen, and kind to printers, with only the cover featuring color and/or graphics.

At $1.05 it is hard for any buyer to miss here. Geared more towards GMs, this PDF makes a nice little addition to their toolbox, providing both inspiration for future adventures, or interesting rewards for a group of hardworking PCs.
