I picked it up tonight at a fairly significant discount. On the one hand it is a very good, simple introduction to the concept of role-playing. On the other hand, it is totally worthless if you have any clue how to play a role-playing game. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing since it is intended for novices, but there is no way this thing is worth the full price of admission even as an intro. I could see paying $10 or $15 for this, but $30 is pure price gouging. For those that are contemplating picking this up as a preview for the full game, don't bother as you don't get very much at all in the way of system preview. Just that you have a roll+skill+modifiers mechanic. No magic preview. The main thing I got out of it is that this will be incredibly easy to convert back and forth to and from d20 with. Oh, and the Balrog is NOT someone you want to armwrestle. But you probably knew that. ;) The only thing (other than price) which really rubs me the wrong way is the section on totalling points to determine if the players 'win'. Makes it feel like a game of Diablo. This is apparently just a product of the fact that you do not have advancement in the adventure game. Judging from what has been said on the Decipher message boards, 'leveling is actually going to be pretty neat in the full rpg. --edited after some research on the Decipher boards.
