Love squirrels?

If you love those fuzzy sneaky little nut-thieves, and are not averse to having a few laughs and a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor in your roleplaying...and if you have $1 to spare, check out the Secrets of the Squirrel.

I just purchased it from RPGNow, and it's a refreshing, entertaining, and still very useful read. 11 pages, with a squirrel theme. A new PC race (Toski  ), a few feats, a handful of new spells, a few magical items and a few creature stats for different squirrels. It all looks pretty balanced, but lovingly written none the less, and you get a free helping of bushy tails and acorns. ;)

I'm not affiliated to the Clockwork Golems, and I don't get any money for "advertising"...I just love this booklet, as it's giving me lots of fun and still can be useful in a game, if you don't mind a little humor. And if I love something like this, I like to spread the word about it. So, for the interested reader of this thread, I'll add the link to RPGNow below. Hope it doesn't offend. :)

Don't think i have ever seen them reprinted...

I'm just nuts about this product!

*rim shot* :D

I bought it as well. I like humorous products, and this one delivered. Plus, I could actually see using this in a game.

Well done!

Thanks Geron (and everyone else on this thread who liked the product).

Writing squirrels was pure, crazy, fun on my part. I was working on another product that I just could't get to work, getting more and more frustrated, when I spotted a thread about squirrel references in the General forum and thought "why not?" I gave myself twenty-four hours to play with the concept, figuring that if it didn't sell at least I could say I'd enjoyed myself. Since then it's sold more copies in a short space of time than any other CGW pdf (and, to be honest, more copies than I expected).

There's probably going to be a revised version of the PDF in the future, incorporating a bunch of ideas that have come up since Squirrels was first released. I've got a file slowly filling with notes and research, ready and waiting until the next time I'm feeling frustrated and in need of some more fun.

One of the things that will definately be included is the attached new illustration of the Toski by Tom Miskey, which has been kicking around on my hard-drive for over a month now without seeing daylight and really deserves to be seen by someone other than me :)

HAH! The squirrel-tamer himself has answered.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Peterson here, about the quality and usefulness of your products. Together with the Squirrels, I got three Lost Books from RPGNow (Golden Vizier, Mad Gods and Gray Swan), and I love every single one of them. They are focussed, well-written, each has its own kind of humor (Peppershot anyone? ), and contrary to many other products that claim such, they can be dropped into nearly every D&D game without so much a a blink. And, if I may say so, at that price, they are more than a steal, for what you get!

An update on the squirrels would definitely be fun to see. I'd give one area of squirrel competence a slightly closer look, and that's jumping. If you ever watched one of those little fuzzballs do a standing jump upwards to get at some yummy, you'll agree. :D

I can only hope you keep up with the good work, because you're bringing a lot of fun into D&D roleplaying. And that's something that is missing in a lot of the stuff coming out for a few years already...the plain fun in it. :)

Nice pic!

You realize that you're now committed to a series of these books. ;)

I could see it now...

Secrets of the Rabbit
Secrets of the Platypus
Secrets of the Koala
Secrets of the Kangaroo

I've never had much chance to see Squirrels up close. Most of the research I did focused on their climbing and scampering ability, along with evidence that they make pretty good ninja. :)

I'll put it down as something to look at for the revision. As a quick fix give the squirrel a +4 racial bonus to Jump checks and allow them to use their Dex bonus, just like a Cat. That gives them an effective jump bonus of -3 once you take the movement penalty into an account - thats enough to clear 5 feet when taking 10 on a long jump, and allows them to average a little short of 2 feet when making a high jump (coupled with their 1 ft. vertical reach).
