Low level 3.5E / 3E / D20 adventures

big dummy

First Post
I'm about to do start a short campaign, technically running a playtest, and I haven't had time to prepare any adventures. I know there aren't a huge amount of published adventures for 3E but I know there are some. I was wondering if any of the more experienced ENworlders could reccomend some appropriate modules I could buy and use for this campaign.

Player level needs to be from 1st to about 6th... mostly in the 2-5 level range.

I need pretty much a standard D&D setting, no Eberron, no Dragonlance, no Ravenloft .

Low to medium magic level ideal. I don't want virtually "No magic" like say, Harn, but not super high like Faerun either (though if thats all there is I'll take it) Medium to high encounter level... while I like Call of Cthulhu I need a decent amount of combat to take place so it can't be just all mystery solving.

Modules which can be slightly modified without ruining them would be a bonus.

Historical / pseudo historical settings a bonus.

Any ideas?

Some of the Dungeon Crawl Classics might be up your alley. My first thought upon seeing your header was "Heroes Are Made Not Born" but that's for pregenerated NPC classes. As VirgilCaine mentioned, WotC has some adventures that might work as well.

Drivethrurpg.com has Looking Glass Deep and Hussle, which are designed for 4th level characters -- and they're free! Cheap at twice the price. ;)

I second the vote for Dungeon Crawl Classics.

Idylls of the Rat King and its sequel will get you from 1 to 4 or so... and as long you're not real story-heavy you can tie in others to pick it up from there. And it wouldn't take a lot of work to link them together as long as you're not set on an over-arching story.

I am running Red Hand of Doom and to get my PC's to 5th level I used "Dark and Stormy Knight" from WOTC's site plus some extra hobgoblin encounters (to set the stage for Red Hand), then I ran Lost Vault of Tzathar Rho (Dungeon Crawl Classics), then I ran Looking Glass Deep (from Malhavoc, a freebie from Mike Mearls). That got them to 5th level and I just started Red Hand.

Don't know why I added that, other than that I'm a fan of DCC...

Westbrook: Beginnings from 3am games is pretty good for a beginning adventure. It's an older (2004) module that just seems to have hit most stores now for some reason or another, along with its sequel.

I actually have "Heroes Are Made Not Born" and it's not bad, I give it a C+

It was well written, organized and put together, but a little bit "kiddyfied" and not to mention probably too tough for 0 level characters not that I really minded that.

When I bought it I bought another DCC module which was also pretty good, about a harpy god set a about 8th level or so (don't remember the name off hand) those two were the only lower level modules they had, everything else was for 12th level on up.

Wait are "Idylls of the Rat King" and "Red Hand of Doom" WOTC or DCC? Are they good?

I would ideally prefer to try out modules that you have actually run and reccomend as being good.
