low tech campaign-presences attacks

I'm thinking of adding presences attacks to my campaign. This is where alot pre-battle factors can affect combat, such as a large force against a smaller one would result in a morale penlty against the smaller one if they failed a will save.
The campaign i'm running is based off of early Moari culture. The Moari have a concept called Mana which (from what I can gather) is sort of like ego, or self confidece. Thus a players Mana would be like a hitpoints and an opposeing sides threats or intimadation could damage them. Going into battle with low mana relative to your enemy could penalize you, or give you an advantage (provided your man is higher).

Mana is more than ego or self-confidence. Mana is ego, self-confidence, ties to the divine, luck, magical ability, and more. Like many "real-world" magical theories, it does not separate "force of personality" from magical ability. Thus, great warriors have much Mana. Great magicians have much Mana. Great kings have much Mana.

Sorry to nitpick, but it's spelt Maori. Toungez should have some interesting comments on this as he's run a campaign based on pacific migrations and legends.
