Tell me about LUG's Star Trek RPG. Is it any good? Does it have a starship combat component? Is it well supported? Which periods does it cover?

When it came out, it was for the TNG-voyager era (all kind of the same time frame).

I've got the main book and a few supplements. Haven't played it in a decade at least.

The rules seemed OK the product looked very polished. glossy pages, color pictures.

I had the players as crew on an Ambassador class ship, the USS Artemis.

One of the things I had whipped up was an episode generator. it had tables of the typical stuff that happens on Star trek (discover new planet, threat at the neutral zone, etc) that worked well enough for instigating plot ideas. If I ever find it, I'll plug it into OGRE

I have a copy of it, and I recall liking the general design when I read it, way back when. Never got around to playing it, so I don't know how well it works in actual play.

Last Unicorn Games, for licensing reasons, couldn't put out just one game for all of Trek. They put out one for Next Generation, one for Deep Space Nine, one for The Original Series. They lost the license to Decipher Games before they could put out one for Voyager. My understanding is that all the games use the same engine (ICON, if I recall correctly), so they're pretty well interchangeable.

As for whether they are well-supported, that's a matter of what you consider good support. There were something like a dozen source-books or boxed sets for the game. I don't think there were many separate published adventures, if that's what you're looking for in support.

You might check out Memory Icon for more information.

How did LUG's system compare with Decipher's? I've always gotten 'em all mixed up.
