Lycanthropy problems in ravenloft

First Post
Hello D&D world,i was just wondering if you had any good ideas onw hat we should do about a slight case of the furries in a lycanthrop nature. Now we are all level 2 now and we dont expect to get much further before the problem arises for the first time. What me and my fellow adventures are wondering is, how do we deal with this problem. We want to keep the biting down to a minimum. Any help on this issue would be great, thanks!

In all honesty, there's not much you can do, save to pump up your Fort saves to beat the DC 18 to contract. Beyond that, it's largely a question of how prevalent your DM wants to make it.

Yep, try to have the largest bonuses possible to Fortitude, or try to get a few spells / potions to protect you against lycanthropy, or augment your armor class in needed times.

There are two afflicted lycanthropes PCs in my Ravenloft campaign :) (they got it from Evil Eye's Nathan Timothy).

The players think it's a fun twist. It is manifesting only on full moon nights, so they have plenty of time to chain and isolate these PCs for these dreaded nights.

Also, to get rid of this curse will make for a good adventure in itself.

Someone recommended that we stick a thing of silver in a choker type setup. So when he does transform it will stick into him. Apperantly it wont kill him but it should subdue him?

Kill the afflicted, just to be safe. I know (s)he's your friend and boon companion, but now they are a cursed murderous beast doomed to be a threat to innocents and those they care about the most. And those victims are likely to curse the killer or the people who could have but didn't stop them. Or the victims might return from the grave to exact revenge against all involved or upon new innocent victims.

Best thing for all involved really if you step up and put them down quickly before things go bad. Same advice if anybody gets turned undead. Best to do it in their sleep, see the coup de grace rules in the PH combat section. If done properly they won't curse you with their dying breath or turn undead to exact revenge on you.

Best of luck with that.

On the plus side, after you kill them, you can take their stuff.

:)

Ahem, that's quite radical :) There are ways to cure lycanthropy! You can fail power checks for doing it, without trying first to save them.

My PC are afflicted only on full moon, so this trigger is easy to get under control.

If however the trigger is giving much complications, such as "seeing blood" or similar uncontrolable event, then you need to cure them quite soon.

If it doesn't work, then use Voadam's advice.

Oh sure, afflicted lycanthropy is a disease, turn them undead then they are immune to disease. :D I think you can also make a dark pact with a fiend, or go to one of the powerful ravenloft priests (the beast god theocratic ruler, priests of Bane, the Egyptian Set clergy, the wolf god's high priest, Tepestani inquisition, etc.) and bargain for them to try to cure your campanion, hoping they don't decide to burn the afflicted at the stake and your whole party as well, just in case. But in ravenloft it is not as easy as in normal D&D for magic to cure lycanthropy, so it is not a sure thing even if they agree to help. So again, best of luck with that. :D

To cure lycanthropy in Ravenloft, you MUST first hunt down and destroy the original, natural lycanthrope from whom the disease descends. Failure to do this will result in a failure of the cure - and you only get one chance.

While doing this, have a PC research the curing ritual.

Don't just try to survive the affliction - the infected characters WILL (guaranteed) rack up Dark Powers checks and turn chaotic evil. Death may be more merciful.

Unless it is well under control by the other PC and the trigger is easily predictable (ex: full moon night). If it's triggered without notice, or random event, or triggered by the original lycanthrope, then it can get nasty, indeed.

Even then, what Ravenloft is about is be heroes in dark situations. If don't try first to cure them, you will get in trouble for murdering someone who had a chance to be saved, or controled. Because there are spells too for this :)

Don't play Ravenloft as a PC grinder, it's not this at all :)
