Hey there,

Here's another villian for M&M. Makes a good low-level threat or a second-in-command. Enjoy.

Origin: Dale Vance was a sadistic, no-good third son of a cattle baron with an interest in science, occult, genealogy and the Old West. Looking up his family tree, Dale found out he was a direct descendant of the outlaw Liberty Valance, who used to terrorize the southwest, particularly the area around the town of Shinbone. Furthermore, his friend John Gawder, a charismatic type who had (dubious) degrees in both scientific and spiritual matters, uncovered a procedure to use the remains of a person to possibly contact them in the sprit world. Excited, Dale asked John if he would take a trip to the location of Shinbone for some “experiments.” John, seeing a way to possibly get Dale beholden to him, agreed.

In the Shinbone cemetary, John erected his machine that would use the freshly dug-up remains of Valance to contact him. During the procedure, a bolt of lightning struck the remains and Dale. Dale was instantly disintegrated and the “remains” jumped to life whole. Somehow, John later theorized, the storm that was raging during the experiment switched Dale and Valance’s souls, bringing Valance to life and destroying Dale.

Valance, taking Dale’s identity, immediately left and began to cut a swath of robbery and murder thoughout the southwest, holing up in ghost towns and the like, using Dale’s money to hide and finance things. John, catching up with him, convinced Valance that it would possibly benefit him to be a gun-for-hire to some of the criminal organizations throughout the nation. Valance agreed, and now sometimes appears in major cities for either a specific “hit” or to act as muscle. His bullying nature fits right in with some of the operations he is hired for. But Valance has his own ideas, too.

Doing some checking, Valance found out that the Honorable State Senator from Arizona is none other than Ransom Stoddard IV. He has made it his personal quest to find him and put a bullet in his head. Perfect payback to his great-grandfather for killing him the first time. He has run into super-types, but so far has managd to elude them.

Appearance: A tall, lanky man with black hair, a mean look in his eyes and dressed in traditional western gear, although when traveling, he tends to wear more modern dress. He carries two Navy Sixes on his gunbelt and a bullwhip by his side.

When Liberty Valance rode to town,
the women folk would hide,
they'd hide
When Liberty Valance walked around,
the men would step aside

Because the point of a gun
was the only law that Liberty understood
When it came to shooting
straight and fast,
he was mighty good.

From out of the east a stranger came,
a law book in his hand,
a man
The kind of a man the west would need
to tame a troubled land

'Cause the point of a gun
was the only law that Liberty understood
When it came to shooting
straight and fast,
he was mighty good.

Many a man would face his gun,
and many a man would fall.
The man who shot Liberty Valance,
he shot Liberty Valance,
He was the bravest of them all.

The love of a girl can make a man
stay on when he should go,
stay on
Just trying to build a peaceful life
where love is free to grow

But the point of a gun
was the only law that Liberty understood
When the final showdown
came to pass,
a law book was no good.

Alone and afraid she prayed that he'd
return that fateful night,
ahh that night
When nothing she said could keep
her man from going out to fight

From the moment a girl gets to be full grown,
the very first thing she learns
When two men go out to face each other,
only one returns

Everyone heard two shots ring out,
the shot made Liberty fall
The man who shot Liberty Valance,
he shot Liberty Valance,
he was the bravest of them all.

The man who shot Liberty Valance,
he shot Liberty Valance,
he was the bravest of them all.

:D

Hey Piratecat,

Well sang.

A fitting tribute to the "toughest man south of the picket wire...

...next to me." :D

SPOILER

Didn't Doniphon shoot Valance, not Stoddard? I mean, wouldn't Valance know that?

Ah, but you're forgetting - the newspaperman said, when given the choice between the truth and the legend, print the legend. So Stoddard would still be accounted the killer of Valance, not Donovan.

Hey there,

Besides, Tom shot him from the side alley so as far as anyone (including Liberty) knows, Ransom Stoddard shot him.

Hey, it'd be interesting to create a big superhero around the D.C. area who happens to be a descendant of Tom Donophin. Then this would really get interesting! :D
