[M&M] Optional Hit Point Damage System Stuff

Hand of Vecna

First Post
Got a few questions concerning the Optional Hit Point Damage System [OHPDS] (p. 130-131) (I'll be running an M&M game this Sunday):

Q1) In the OHPDS, the Amazing Save (Damage) power converts to Damage Reduction -- for every rank you have in AS (D), you gain 2 points of DR, which is deducted from all attacks. Since Force Field adds its ranks to the character's Damage Save, does it also grant Damage Reduction?

Q2) How does the power of Protection (and by extension, Armor) work? Does it give DR similar to Amazing Save (Damage)?

Q3) How does the Reincarnate power work in the OHPDS?

Q4) How does the Penetrating Attack Super-Feat work (my guess is that iot would negate the first 5 points of DR a target possessed per time the feat was taken).

I've already asked these questions at the Green Ronin Mesageboards, but the only reply I've ogtten was "Good luck with the answers, the HP rules seem to be the red-headed stepchild around here. I ended up having to borrow rules from Silver Age Sentinels d20 to replace some of the M&M feats and powers that just don't seem to work with HP as written."

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry I didn't see your post on the GR board. First, let me repost the summary of the Hit Point rules I gleaned from Steve or had him give a nod to.

Errata Page 131 Optional Hit Points side bar
Actually it's Protection (and other powers that provide Protection, like Armor) that should provide Damage Reduction.

Amazing Save (Damage) should provide additional hit points (not DR) like Super-Constitution does.

Hit Point Recap:

Hit points:
1d6 per character level, Minions 1d3 per level
Stun=subdual
Lethal=hit point damage

Disabled at 0, dying at –1, dead at –10

Recovery:
(for 5th level characters)
5 subdual per minute
5 hit points per day
Medical attention doubles rates

Powers:
Regeneration
Regeneration adds it ranks to the recovery rates and hit points get healed in minutes
Level 5 Regen example
5+5 sudual per minute
5+5 hit points per minute

Super Strength adds 1d6 per damage per rank.

Absorption: (My house rule, but Steve said it looked good)
You have a DR rating of Power Rank X 2. You can absorb up to a total of 40 hit points per power rank. Stored hit points bleed off at a rate of 4 hit points per round. With every 4 hit points, you can power a rank for another effect.
(This was figured on the concept that every power rank deals 1d6 damage, so an average of 3.5 rounded up to 4 to be convenient and err on the conservative side.)

Healing Power:
Healing adds its ranks in hit points
Level 5 Healing Example
+5 hit points back

Protection, Armor, Force Field and other similar powers:(errata)
The power converts to DR of Level X 2.

Penetrating Attack: (My house rule, but Steve said it looked good)
Each level of the feat reduces a targets DR by 4.

Evasion: (My house rule, but Steve hasn't seen it yet.)
When a Fortitude Save is requested to avoid damage in a physical situation, a Reflex check can be made to reduce the damage by half.

Super Constitution and Damage Save: (errata)
These powers adds extra hit points of the power’s level multiplied by the Hero’s total levels
Example of a Level 5 hero with a Super Constitution 2
2 X 5 = 10 hit points.

Damaging Objects:
Look up stats of objects in your perferred d20 book

Hero Points:
A Hero Point can erase subdual points equal to his power level, i.e. 5th Level hero erases 5 subdual damage points.
A Hero Point can let a PC ignore the status of being Disabled for 1 round with out his condition worsen to dying.

And now to your questions:

Q1) Force Field is like Protection so now adds DR. After the errata, the Damage Save is just more hit points.

2.) yep

3.) Ah! A new rule to make!
Going off my Absorption use, one could take the total hit point damge damage and divide by 2 to get your DC modifier. Then take your subdual damage and divide by 4. (or you could just divide both totals by four and assign a +2 and a +1 respectively.) Either way, find a divisor that makes you happy for your game.

4.) See my house rule above.

And have some patience. :) Some times it takes a couple of days to find the answer you want.

On second thought, probably I think I will use 16 as the divisor and since I think the ususal Reincarnate seems a tad tough, I won't add the extra +10 for the base DC check.
