I'm working on building out Princes of the Apocalypse for a group of four characters levels between 10 and 15. That is the characters will begin the story at level 10 and end at level 15. The second dungeon of the earth cult, Temple of the Black Earth, has a dao which is creating magic items for the cult. I suspect the characters will offer to hire the dao to work for them to make magic items. I'm okay with the dao doing this, but the Dao would need something done for it first. My future plans running the characters through SKT from levels 15 to 20. So I would like to use the dao quest to tie into SKT as a little bit of foreshadowing. Would you have any recommendations for what a dao wants?
My initial thoughts:
1) The dao wants something from a stone giant. This something could be a unique sculpture or stone that has acclaim among the giants.
2) The dao wants the finest tools to create the magic items. These are obtained from some fire giants.
These characters were run through Lost Mines of Phandelver. They've acquired the ancient artifact in the mines that was once used to create magic items. It feels right that if this dao were allowed to use that item, then it could certainly create magical items for the characters.
The magic item creation would be rolled into the kingdom builder game, and would most likely add a feature to the town of Phandalin and add a flavor to the magic items.
