But, as you say, 3e threads the needle between two workable solutions.To be fair, I find wonderment issues spread far beyond the crafting parts of items in 3e. It has just as much to do with quantity of items and only being able to track a few interesting items.I find my players can only really keep track of one or two interesting items on top of their character complexity.
