Magic item description question

First Post
In the DMG they talk about lenses that fit over your eyes. Now are these like sunglasses, monocles, or contact lenses. I think they are like sunglasses, but my group thinks they are referring to contact lenses. I think that is ridiculous, but I want to know if I am just looking at it the wrong way.

Mind if I ask what lenses they are talking about?

But to answer your question, I would have to say Sunglasses. I don't think the eye doctors of Medieval times had quite mastered the wonderous plastic contact lenses. Not to mention I couldn't imagine trying to put glass contact lenses in my eye.

Like lenses of minute seeing. I agree with you about the contact lense, but then the post after yours has a valid point as well that they are magic. But I still agree that that I just don't buy it.

Look at the 3.0 iconic gnome illusionist, I believe he has magical lenses. They look like engineering goggles.

If you are looking for a medievalesque game, lenses are a bit more renaisance or steampunk era tech.

Sunglasses and contacts would be anachronistic and genre disrupting, I'd have the lenses placed in a wooden or ceramic shaman mask, or perhaps a domino mask is used instead of lenses.

Well in the SRD they are goggles of minute seeing. Not that, that makes a big difference. But in the description it says when they are placed over the eyes. To me over mean just that over and not in the eyes like contacts.
