Quick update regarding the magic greataxe: I decided that the PC's late father and older brother had done some research into their family's progenitor and had discovered that the heirloom greataxe the PC has been wielding is most likely a replica of the magic axe the ancestor carried. They figured that the "real" axe had most likely been buried with the ancestor. The PC's brother suggested she go visit the ancestor's tomb in the ancient catacombs beneath the city's cemetery. Of course, the catacombs have recently become infested with undead, so she's got a fight on her hands before she can find her ancestor's crypt. But once she gets there, her ancestor's spirit will manifest and remark on her courage and her epic quest and will transform the axe into a magical one. Now, the PC's family name is "Stormwind", so I thought I could do something with that. Unfortunately for me, there are a few too many options, which is making it somewhat difficult for me to choose. I'm thinking it'll be a sentient greataxe (with the sentience being that of the ancestor's spirit) with the Destiny Seeker purpose - the ancestor believes that the PC has a key role to play in future events and it wants to help her fulfil that destiny. I also want the axe to have the thrown property. So far, so good. Now, to play on the "Stormwind" name, I could make it so the axe can cast one or more of the following spells: thunderous smite, thunderwave, investiture of wind, storm sphere, warding wind. I could potentially make it so the PC (or the axe itself) can cast warding wind once per day to start with and then later upgrade it to investiture of wind. The PC is still only 4th level, after all. I might also give it a + or two at some point. Alternatively (or additionally) I could give the axe a 1/day usage of the tempest cleric's Wrath of the Storm ability. I'm also contemplating giving it the Guardian special feature and maybe also the Confident quirk. What do people think? I've got two more weeks to make up my mind, as we got into the catacombs during tonight's session but didn't make it through to the ancestor's crypt.
