This makes up their available magic points. Casters have three positions their magic points can be in. When a caster casts a spell they draw magic points equal to the spell's level from their available magic points and place them in one of to positions. Magic points used to power instantaneous become spent magic points and non-instantaneous spells become used magic points for . Spells are all cast at the caster’s caster level.</p><p></p><p><strong>Available Magic Points</strong></p><p>Spell points that are available magic points can be used to cast spells.</p><p></p><p><strong>Spent Magic Points</strong></p><p>Spell points that are spent magic points can only be recovered.</p><p></p><p><strong>Used Magic Points</strong></p><p>Spell points that are used magic points are those that are tied up maintaining spells with durations. These magic points cannot be recovered while being used. When a maintained spell’s effects end, the used magic points become spent magic points.</p><p></p><p><strong>Negative Caster Levels</strong></p><p>Every negative caster level that a caster has lowers their caster level by 1. This affects their magic points and the maximum number of magic points spent at once charts. If a caster lowers their caster level to zero with negative caster levels, he or she becomes unconscious.</p><p></p><p><strong>Magic Point Recovery</strong></p><p>Magic point recovery makes spent magic points become available magic points. Casters recover all of their magic points after five minutes of uninterrupted time to do their recovery method. They cannot take any other actions while recovering and they gain 1 negative caster level during the process. Divine casters pray and plea with their deity to get their power back, arcane casters draw back their magical energies from around them, innate casters focus their inner strength and psionic casters meditate and rebuild their mental wills.</p><p></p><p><strong>Draining Spells</strong></p><p>Whenever a caster casts a spell that the DM sees as problematic, it takes something out of the caster for the day to do it. Each time it is selected it adds an additional time the caster can recover without gaining a negative caster level.</p><p></p><p><strong>Optional Rules</strong></p><p><strong>Tokens</strong></p><p>It is a good idea for the player to use actual tokens (pennies, glass beads etc.) when using this system because the tokens can be moved quickly to show their position: available, spent and used. Use a different token (nickel, color of glass bead etc.) for negative caster levels.</p><p></p><p><strong>Caster Fatigue</strong></p><p>A caster becomes fatigued when they get a negative caster level (-2 to strength and dexterity, 8 hours of rest to recover).
