The Elder Scrolls series does a good job with this concept. Each culture has their own armour sets - with variants within cultures for factions, like Great House Redoran Bonemold & Chitin Armor vs Great House Telvanni style. Both would be Dark Elves, but very different subcultures. To do this, you need to have at least a basic understanding of the worldbuilding you want (in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which defined Dark Elf culture for the series, we find that their homeland is devoid of mammalian life forms but abundant with insectoid, land-crustacean, and cephalopod forms that they can use for transportation, hunting, housing, and yes, armour). Meanwhile, Nords (a human culture) wear mostly furs and leathers, with some chain armours if they're more closely aligned with the Imperial legions (or once were; the Stormcloak Rebellion in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also use chain-based armours, but these are former Nord Legionnaires who are now fighting the Legion for what they see as letting the High Elf empire enemy that the Empire made peace treaties with police their religious beliefs. The greatest Nord smiths, however, work with Skyforged Steel, and Nordic steel armour features highly decorative and mystical designs made with Corundum. On the island of Solstheim, as seen in The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon and The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn, there's also Nordic Ice armour which is made from magical ice crystal formations. And Cyrodiils, also known as Imperials of the heartland of the Empire, are usually decked out in Romanesque armour - what you'd expect to see Roman Legionnaires wearing, this is usually of various levels of chain, studden leather, and plate armours, made from iron or steel. High Elves and the extinct but related Heartland High Elves (Ayleids) wear Elven armour, which is a greenish-gold colored armour crafted from moonstone. Dwarven armor is crafted from melted down dwarven metal objects, since the Dwarven civilization is long since extinct but they made highly advanced steam-powered robots called Centurions. Orcish armour is made from Orichalchum. Think about cultures, think about materials, think about history and what makes that people interesting. It's going to be very unique for your setting vs mine, as we see the manifestation of the cultures of the free peoples of our worlds in very different ways.
