Magnificent Egoes down?

This thread makes me really happy that Mag Egoes got flakey on me BEFORE I accepted any painting commissions.

I would be interested in getting some of the L5R minis, and I think I have a couple harbingers of the north. I will check and email you, Mr. The Gneech. ;)

Doesn't work that easily, Mark. ;)

Might be much more difficult than that since the ME web page now links your directly to Paizo for everything.

Looks like they have plenty of room for a news item on their front page. Did anyone ask? I find it hard to believe that someone who owes someone else that much money would turn down a request that costs them virtually nothing to grant.

Because the company is still trying to recover and posting something like that on the company page would essentially confirm what we've been speculating. Instead, those of us who are owed money are told "We're working on it."

It's a bad business move plain and simple. I also don't want the situation to turn into a "we've posted the news and whatever you made from your sale of your personal stock should be applied to what we owe you." It would be like getting paid in product. You will never get a tenth of what you are owed by selling product on your own. It just doesn't work in this industry.

You don't feel the people posting that they are owed huge sums of money, like yourself, is pretty much the death knell? You don't think the fact that it is only JVisgaitis's good graces keeping the website up is a sign the company, which is horribly in debt, is not likely to spring back?

I'm getting used to being burned by companies who owe me a lot of money (often to the tune of several thousand dollars).

No offense but are you sure you've got a handle on what works in this industry? I'm not claiming to be an expert but I think if I was in your shoes I'd try something a little different. There must be some way to recover some of what you are owed and to reduce the risk of being owed (and not being paid) so much in the future.

No offense taken, Mark. As most people who have worked within the print side of the industry since 3rd edition first came out can tell you, many companies were not able to adjust when the bubble burst and left owing their writers a lot of money. Writers/editors are always the ones to get paid last. This means I was left being owed a lot of money. As for what I did for Mag Egos, that was commission based so I wouldn't get paid until ME got paid. The breakdown began when I was the last to get paid again.

I've taken steps to make sure that situation doesn't happen again. Acquiring Bastion Press was just one of those steps. So yes, I do know what I am doing. Sometimes the cards just fell in the wrong place in the past. Not in the future if I can help it.

I see. Well, as you know, you are always welcome to email me if you have any thoughts on how I might be of assistance. I wish you the best and good fortune in resolving this current dilemma as swiftly and satisfactorily as possible.
