Mah dawg has fleas… Mah dawg has fleas… Pardon me, I mean to say my cats have fleas. Hopefully, by now that will be past tense. My cat (originally named Kit Kat, but I’ve been calling her Swea’Pea) had five kittens, and the kittens are about 10 to 11 weeks old now. They are little scamps, running around playing with each other, plotting carnage and so forth. However, they had picked up flea. This was most evident on the kitten with white fur, because you could see the little dark SOB crawling around in its fur. Knowing flea carry the black plague, I resolved to put a stop to it. So last night I gave all six cats a bath with anti-flea pet shampoo. That was something of a minor adventure. Swea’Pea is gentle, friendly and before the kittens was also quite. My results of bathing her have left my with gouge marks up my chest, over my should and down my back – and that was just from the initial getting her wet. She complained about the event, even after we were done. The kittens were much easier to handle – they are very small. The instructions on the shampoo read to let the stuff soak in the cat fur for about five minutes. I washed all the kittens more or less at once and had them closed in the bathroom with me so I would not have chase them down a second time. So for about five minutes I had a double handful of soaked (looked like drowned rats) and shivering kittens staring balefully at me. People say cats a clean animals, but after washing six cats the tub was pretty dirty. I dried them as best I could and then let them lounge around the living room. However, when I tried to up them on the porch for the night, the orange tabby kitten would have nothing to do with me and I chased it for about 20 minutes before herding it out the door. The others were much more cooperative. This morning, before I left for work I bombed the cabin (where I live) to take care of the ticks and fleas the kittens brought in. I know that may seem extreme, but blasting the cabin to toothpicks should kill the pests. By pests I mean ticks and fleas, not kittens. Oh, alright. I did not blow up the cabin. I just tossed a canister of sarin gas into the living room before I left for work. Hopefully that finishes off the bugs. I am somewhat concerned by the possibly of retaliation from the cats, though.
