As promissed, here's some more info... The cover was put together by myself and the main picture is a doctored holiday snap. The impresive landscape is actually Colley's Ledge on the Culin Ridge on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The silhouetted barbarian is actually my Dad's Mate, Andy, waving (I put a sword in his had and airbrushed out his backpack). Sorry if that destroyed any sense of mystery :), but I'd recommend getting up there to see it if you can. The cartography is by the excellent Clayton Bunce, of Morning Star fame. Now for some more about the product: The DarkLore Campaign Primer is a free PDF product, giving you the bare bones of information to run a DarkLore campaign. DarkLore uses a tweaked version fo the standard D20 rules which follows a basic ethos of 'applying D20 Modern to fantasy', but it's also been influenced by Warhammer FRP. There are 6 new ability-score related basic classes (10 levels only) and a collection of career classes (3 levelers of which you take multiple to build your career path). The standard D&D races have also been tweaked, and a new subraces system is included. There's also a new alternative to ECLs for the more powerful race options. Magic has been toned down to put the emphasis on utility spells rather than direct damage, and most magic comes with some darker cost. The idea has been to lower the power level, but increase flexibility and utility of characters in order to capture the dark fantasy feel and create a more novel-like gaming experience. If you want, you can just take this system and run your own low-powered dark fantasy games, but if you want to explore our world, we've given you an introduction to our world, its themes and to the nations and organisations conspiring within. We're intending to expand out the DarkLore world with future modules that will not only provide you with new game material, but also a detailed description of the different regions AND a metaplot linked adventure that can be used to tie the characters into world-changing events and become the heroes of the game world themselves. The idea is to capture a classic fantasy novel feel in the game world so that people can immerse themsleves in what we believe fantasy roleplaying is at its best. There's a preview available from our website: DarkLore Preview, but this was written before the 3.5 rules, and so the actual product will be changed to bemore in line with the fixes in this, such as the new system for flurry of blows. Thats all for now, Cheerio, Ben, Malladin's Gate
