Part II Now let's discuss about the "worst ennemy" of the powergamer: the power-less gamer. What do I mean by that? Well, you've all meet one: yes remember the character who was a random collection of feat? Ah and the strange character that was a danger to the rest of the group? I don't care how people play, it is their fun. No, I'm upset when people criticize my way of playing, because they don't want to take the effort to see other way of playing (or to fully design a character but I digress)... I understand that it is no fun to play a game where your character is just a witness to the "hero" character. But I've found that it is often the witness own fault. Creating an efficient and realistic character takes time lot of time, so does knowing all the background of the world that is needed and the strategies to be efficient... Putting together a small list of "cool" ability does not. How can one have fun when a character can do nothing? You don't have to be a combat monster to have fun, just be able to do something. As long as you can do SOMETHING then you can play your character intelligently and find a way to use this "something you do" to your advantage. I saw a mage character that due to real bad luck (rolemaster system) started as"boil water" as his only spell: the player still played him well, using his skills to maximize the use of this spell. Now compare with: "I'm going to play a fighter with a great sword. No, no armor, I don't feel like having armor. " Of course he didn't took dodge or expertise or hid in anyway during ranged combat. The character could have been usefull with a little effort, but paper thin character rarely have effort putt in them (pitty, they can sometime be really worth it). Ps: yes I play in a gaming club, with people that are not necessarily friends. Ps2: yes, I know I'm not clear.
