Shop #3 – Magic Carpets! Today we return to the intersection of Market & Random streets – based on a Patreon request from Mark Clover, I’m drawing up individual floor plans for a number of shops, stores, vendors, and businesses along a single market block. As I draw these, I also have the overhead views drawn out on a map of the city block as I go, so when the series is complete you can use them on their own, or as a fully mapped out block of shops. Our third map in the series is “Magic Carpets!”, an ordinary rug shop with an extraordinary sounding name (that surely some adventurer will be annoyed by). This is a two-story structure with a full basement. The ground floor includes a covered outdoor display area (with old sail cloth providing the awnings overhead) with more rugs and carpets inside. While the shop has a number of rugs on display on the walls and more rolled up, what it lacks is a loom or other work area to make more – many of the rugs are made at a few residences nearby and the owner of Magic Carpets! either sells them on commission, or imports them from other towns. The showroom also has a small table with a number of chairs around it where you can usually find the owner and a few friends playing games of chance and sharing the local gossip. A locked door in the main showroom leads to the owner’s residence upstairs, and another set of stairs leads down to the basement where a few more rugs are kept along with what used to be a large store room that is mostly empty. There is a hollow behind one of the walls here containing an elven skeleton and a distinct lack of Amontillado. The 1200 dpi versions of the map were drawn at a scale of 300 pixels per square and are 6,300 x 6,900 pixels (21 x 23 squares). To use this with a VTT you would need to resize the squares to 70 pixels (for 5′ squares) – so resizing the image to 1,470 x 1,610 pixels. https://dysonlogos.blog/2024/06/05/magic-carpets/
