But you would still have to take your five foot step away from your opponent (backward or diagonally etc.). Here you have your Musketeer, Zorro etc. who might be backing away to defend himself...
Yeah thanks for posting the review, another pretty good one he gave it 4 out of 5 stars for both Style and Substance. I was wondering if you might have some ideas on a new MF I was playing around with. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLHLNDKejB4[/ame][ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McDfLkLqJAE"][/ame][ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B42c5KNT2vc"][/ame] I was thinking about the Swashbuckler movies like the Three Musketters, Zorro, pirate flicks etc., and one of those classic sword fights you see where one guy is backing up the stairs etc., and the other guy is pressing in with attacks. Then it reverses for a while. You know, the kind of fight you used to always see in those movies. I wanted to figure out how I would emulate this in the Codex, which got me thinking some more about Distance fighting. Here was what I had come up with originally: Distance fighting (for lack of a better word) Benefits: 1) Free dice on init rolls vs. an enemy with inferior reach bonus 2) Free dice Free dice for voids while at Onset range On reflection I think this is a good idea for a new Martial Feat. I was thinking two things should be added to this basic idea, 1) a pre-requisite of the sidestep Martial Feat. This would make it a little harder to get, plus the two actually dovetail really nicely. But heres the kicker, you have to make a 5' step backward each time you use this. This wouldn't have any extra MP cost, but it would require you to move around, and that would require you to have room to do so. So I was also thinking, you should have an Advanced Distance Fighting Martial Feat to go along with this. This one would have Distance Fighting MF plus Mobility Feat as a pr-req, and would give you a free dice on all Active Defense rolls at Onset range (i.e. not just a void). But you would still have to take your five foot step away from your opponent (backward or diagonally etc.). Here you have your Musketeer, Zorro etc. who might be backing away to defend himself...
