From the auction description. [callout] Hi Folks- Some of you may remember me as one of the founders of Last Unicorn Games (a company we sold to Wizards of the Coast in 2000). At the time of the sale, we had the Dune: Chronicles of the Imperium RPG ready to print, and because of intense fan interest in the game WotC decided to do a limited print run using our house game system (ICON) and offer the books for sale at GenCon that year. Even though we limited each customer to one book, the books at the show sold out very quickly (as is evidenced by their popularity on the secondary market). Alas, we had other titles ready to go, and had completed a large amount of work on the d20 edition, but none of those things would ever see the light of day (for a number of complex reasons). Contrary to popular belief, we had a great relationship with the Herbert Estate, and Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson edited our book, with Brian writing the forward. What is not common knowledge was that we were given access to some of his father’s work that had never seen the light of day (for both our RPG titles and the CCG we did with WotC). Those were good times:) Recently, I was doing some deep house cleaning and came upon a few boxes of old Last Unicorn product that I didn’t know I had. This included six Dune RPG books. Since I already have two well-worn and well-loved copies on my game shelf, I thought there might be public demand for some signed copies in mint condition (I literally found these in a box from our old printer with a couple of Star Trek hardcovers — none had ever even been opened). Since Owen and I had been looking for an excuse to visit our old friend Matt Colville and see his shiny new MCDM studio in Irvine, we took a road trip to sunny SoCal. Amidst much reminiscing about the good ‘ol days, the three of us found a free moment to sign the Dune books in the nifty library studio folks who follow Matt’s streaming games are no doubt familiar with. And we filmed the whole thing for posterity, to boot! A great time was had by all, and now I’m putting the books up for auction (a portion of the proceeds will be donated to charity) here on eBay. As you’ll see from the photos, these books are in absolute mint condition, never opened except for the three of us to sign the flyleaf page. We’re going to auction them one by one over time, and each auction winner will also receive a copy of the signing video as proof of authentication. Enjoy! The Sleeper Must Awaken! Yours in gaming, Christian Moore[/callout] Cause I should have read the auction description more carefully.
