Wizards usually have no way to heal themselves.- You will need protection and movement to be a decent battlefield controller. Buy a Rod of Extend Metamagic and a Lesser Rod of Extend metamagic. You now have three spells lvl 0-3 and three spells level 0-6 to extend each day.
