They come across like she really likes her protagonist, but doesn't want to get into a large plot around them. Some of that is probably being written into a bit of a corner by going back to characters who have established pasts that don't include kingdom-shaking events and such. If Skiff saved Valdemar, then why did it never come up over the course of three prior books that featured him heavily? But she could project the extant characters into the future. Alberich's too old for that, but people like Skiff and Karal aren't that old and could easily have future adventures in some kind of post-Selenay Valdemar.Speaking of, I'm really wondering how old Selenay is. She's an adult with a child around six when Talia first sees her, and more recent books have made it look like Talia's gotten fairly on in years. Likewise the first Davan book seems to describe the Mage Storms as something that happened at least several years prior, and had more of the feeling of a decade or more.Both of those would be great. I could go for seeing more of Davan too, but that's probably because I never found the middle book of his trilogy and thus didn't go past the first. I don't know if she left him in a position where she really could go back to him.</blockquote>
