Mayday! Mayday! Is Traveller day!

I crit!
I've been seeing this pop up here and there for Mayday. This classic quote from Free Trader Beowulf is one of those shining things in my personal history of RPG's. It captured my imagination and fired it the moment I saw it and I had to have that game. Anyone playing Traveller this month?

I just sold my copy of The Traveller Book, so... no. But I do own a lot of Traveller and Cepheus books in PDF, so there's hope for the future.

Just got this in email too... ha!

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

The original Traveller featured the iconic Mayday! on its box: the universal distress call M’aidez! (French for Help Me!), generally expressed in English as “Mayday.”

Traveller traditionally celebrates May 1 as its holiday. We’re celebrating in the days leading up to Senday, May 1.

(MayDay precedes the Star Wars celebration day May 4 (as in “May The Fourth [be with you]”) by three days, which lets us do our celebration before they step in.)

To celebrate Mayday, we have a new title:

Manhunt. The Onnesium Quest.

This is a Digest Group Traveller title planned but never published. It was recently resurrected from a 3.5 inch disk, now properly formatted by Nick Gibbins with art from Rob Caswell and Ian Stead. The PDF is available now. The POD will be available June 1 (when the proof copies are approved, current PDF holders will get a notification; and the bargain rate).

Nice Information

Traveller was first published on the first day of the Origins Game Fair in Staten Island: Friday, July 22, 1977. Now 2022 is thus the 45th anniversary of the Traveller game system..

Traveller has been (in various editions) published in German, Japanese, and the Traveller universe has been portrayed in a variety of rules sets: MegaTraveller, The New Era, Traveller 4th edition, Traveller D20, Traveller HERO, Traveller GURPS, and Mongoose Traveller.

So, Traveller turns 45 in 2022. We’re looking forward to another 45 years ahead of us.
