MBA research paper: roleplaying industry

First Post
I introduced this idea on the Publisher's forum, and found out that some publishers would be willing to help...and I'm hoping that there are players out there who would also be willing to help. I've pretty much narrowed down the topic to the d20 part of the RPG industry, looking into the personality types that are affiliated (designing, producing and playing) with the various genres out there. Listed below are the genres, with examples, that I'm aware of in the d20 world. Could you help me piece together some more genres and examples? Thanks.

Medieval fantasy, western
  • WotC's core rule books

Modern
  • Spycraft
  • d20 Modern

Medieval fantasy, Oriental
  • L5R
  • Oriental Adventures

World War II/horror
  • Weird Wars

Furturistic
  • Dragonstar

Futuristic/wild west
  • Broncosaurus Rex

Wild West/horror
  • Deadlands

Post apocalyptic
  • Scarred Lands

Wow. You're quite right. Just goes to show that this is going to be a fun undertaking. :p

What's the exact focus of the paper? Sales between genres? How the different genres are marketed?
The paper's part of my Research in Organizational Behavior class. I am going to focus on the personality types that are involved in the d20 sub-set of the RPG industry. While other parts of the business mix (finance, sales, marketing, economics, etc.) will probably be discussed, they are not the driving force.

Our professor said to pick a topic that interested us. I believe the rest of my class picked topics that were work related...I didn't...and that surprised him. He actually asked if people did this as a full-time job.

For Post apocalyptic, you could also include The End and the Deadlands variant Hell on Earth.

For horror, (if you want more obscure games) you could include Little Fears.

Science fiction -- Traveller d20, or T20, and Fading Suns d20, and Farscape d20. There were, at one time, plans for Dune d20, but don't know what happened to it.

Fantasy -- Harn d20.

Was informed by my professor that this is not a thesis, but a research paper necessary for graduation. The thesis is another animal entirely. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
